CSS - Club Spotrif Sfaxien

The Club Sportif Sfaxien, one of the most prestigious teams in Tunisia, has not stopped, since its creation in 1928, enriching the world of Tunisian sport, by introducing, in all disciplines, its proper playing philosophy, being dynamic and adept of the beautiful and clean game.

The CSS gave birth to a large number of players who have engraved their names in gold letters, whether nationally or internationally. Particularly, in football, the memory of CSS fans cannot forget the “magician” Hammadi Agrebi as well as other talented players such as Mohamed Ali Akid, Mokhtar Dhouib, Ezzedine Chakroun, Sami Trabelsi, Skander Swayah, etc.

Inspired by the wealth of Sfax, which makes it a brilliant city in all sectors, the Club Sportif Sfaxien continues to open up to the various sports disciplines in addition to football such as basketball, volleyball and other sports.

In fact, the CSS is present today in judo, boxing, athletics, rugby, weightlifting, karate and kickboxing. The successive victories of the club and the large number of medals he has won have strengthened the pride of the CSS fans.

Football

Tunisian Football Championship

Also known as League 1, the Tunisian Football Championship was organized for the first time in 1907 under the French protectorate. Since 1956, the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has been organizing the League 1.

  • The CSS had the honor of winning this title eight times: 1969, 1971, 1978, 1981, 1983, 1995, 2005 and 2013.
Tunisian Football Cup

This is a Tunisian football competition that dates back to 1922. After the independence of Tunisia (1956), it had been called “President's Cup”. It changes its name again after the Tunisian revolution (2011) to become “Tunisian Football Cup”.

  • The CSS had strongly marked its presence in this competition by winning this prestigious title four times, in: 1971, 1995, 2004 and 2009.
Tunisian Football League Cup

This is a Tunisian football competition launched in 2000 and cancelled in 2007, totaling 7 seasons.

  • Faithful to its image as a big Tunisian club, the CSS managed to win the title of this competition in 2003.
Arab Football Championship

Formerly called "Arab Champions League", it is an annual football competition organized by the Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA) and it opposes the best Arab football clubs.

  • The CSS had the merit of winning this title twice during its history: in 2000 and 2004.
CAF Confederation Cup (formerly CAF Cup)

This is a competition between African clubs. We were talking before of the CAF Cup, which was organized for the first time in 1992 and was merged by CAF with the African Cup Winners' Cup to finally give birth to the Confederation Cup in 2004.

  • The CSS won the CAF Cup title in 1998 as well as the CAF Confederation Cup title three times: in 2007, 2008 and 2013.

Volleyball

The CSS Men's Volleyball team, one of the best teams in Tunisia and Africa won this title several times. Below is the complete list of prizes, distributed by age categories as follows:

  • Senior category, 11 times: 1979, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 2004, 2005, 2009 and 2013.
  • Junior category, four times: 1994, 2004, 2006 and 2007.
  • Cadet category, seven times: 1986, 1988, 1992, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
  • Minim category, nine times: 1976, 1979, 1989, 1992, 1993, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008.
  • School category, four times: 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2008.

The very powerful CSS men's volleyball team won this title several times:

  • Senior category, 12 times: 1977, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1987, 2002, 2005, 2009, 2012 and 2013.
  • Junior category, three times: 1976, 1977 and 2006.
  • Cadet category, 10 times: 1978, 1987, 1989, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 2005, 2008 and 2009.
  • Minim category, nine times: 1975, 1976, 1992, 1993, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2008.
  • School category, two times: 2004 and 2005.

This is the most prestigious competition between the best teams of African male volleyball.

  • The CSS senior team won this majestic title six times: 1985, 1986, 1989, 1999, 2005 and 2013.

This is a competition between the best Arab men's volleyball teams.

  • The CSS senior team is the most successful team in this competition with six titles: 1983, 1986, 1992, 1999, 2000 and 2008.

This competition is very important in the world of Tunisian women's sports.

  • The CSS Senior Women's Volleyball Team won this title six times: 1999, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2012. The Cadet Team won this title once in 1989.

This competition is quite prestigious in the world of Tunisian women's sports.

  • The CSS Senior Women's Volleyball Team won this title six times: 2002, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2018.

Basketball

The CSS women's basketball team is one of the best teams in Tunisia. In fact, it is the most successful team of the Tunisian Women's Basketball Championship, with 18 titles: 1992, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

  • It also holds many titles in the Tunisia Women's Basketball Cup competition with seven titles in hand: 1998, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2013.
  • The CSS women's basketball team is also notable in the world of Arab women's basketball with its two titles of the Arab Women's Club Basketball Championship: 1999 and 2000.

Judo

The judo section of CSS won a big number of medals during the 2016/2017 season. Thanks to the special effort and dedication of its judokas: Farid Trabelsi, Ramzi Trabelsi, Amal Elleuch, Manel Loudhini and Sami Makni, the CSS has won 23 medals in various competitions.

These medals are distributed as follows:

  • Gold medals: 11
  • Silver medals: 5
  • Bronze medals: 7

Athletics

The CSS athletes in the various individual sports (running, gymnastics, discus throw, javelin throw, weight throw, etc.) honored their club by winning 11 gold medals in 2017.

Weightlifting

CSS has a very disciplined, motivated and well-trained weightlifting section. Indeed, in 2017, the weightlifting section managed to win 20 gold medals.

Among the athletes who have actively participated in this great success, we mention Yosra Dhieb, Ghada Hssin and Jawaher Guesmi.

Boxing

The talented boxers of the CSS, in particular: Siwar Hadhi, Amal Abdessalem, Aya Ben Brahim and Safa Gargouri contributed to a medal-rich prize list. Indeed, the boxing section of the CSS won nine medals in 2017 divided as follows:

  • Gold medals: 3
  • Silver medals: 2
  • Bronze medals: 4

Kickboxing

The Kickboxing section of the CSS counts among its staff, athletes that have marked the history of the club in 2017:

  • Ibtissem Smii was voted best athlete in Tunisia in 2017, in "Full Contact".
  • Ahlem Ghoul was voted best athlete in Tunisia in 2017, in "Low Kick".

The seasoned Kickboxing section of the CSS has managed to win 37 gold medals in 2017.

Karate

Sfaxian Karateka Yasmine Bel Hadj has magnificently represented the CSS by winning the bronze medal at her participation in the prestigious tournament "Italian Open - Lignano".

Rugby

Tunisian Rugby Championship: Contrary to the Tunisian common opinion, Rugby is a quite an ancient sport in Tunisia. In fact, the first season of the Tunisian Rugby Championship was organized in 1971.

  • The CSS Rugby team won this competition three times: 1972, 1973 and 1976.
Top
